Through this period "Billboard" only released an album chart of the top five best selling albums every three months.Īll albums during this period where recorded on a one track systems basically reel to reel, in others words live in the studio and no room for mistakes. It was also during this decade that the first album charts where produced in the USA. This decaded also saw the rise of major record labels such as Capitol, Decca and RCA Victor. All these releases' where put out on 10 inch records (unlike the 50's and onwards where the 12 inch record became the norm).
The 1940's was the beginning of the album as a marketable format of music, thier where albums released in the 1930's but nothing really of note.Īlbums released throughout the 1940's essentially comprised of classical, world, jazz, stage/musical, folk, vocal and soundtrack recordings.
